CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago paramedic has won a fight with the city over a uniform policy.

Pat Fitzmaurice bought a bullet resistant vest with his own money and the Chicago Fire Department told him he couldn't wear the vest over his uniform.

Fitzmaurice challenged the policy, and then on Friday the fire department and union reached a deal allowing paramedics to buy their own vest and wear them over their uniforms.

They are still finalizing the exact details.
