CHICAGO -- Chicago firefighters have approved a new five-year contract.

The firefighters union says the new deal includes 11-percent pay raises, and it says 91 percent of those casting ballots voted in favor of the contract. The contract and part of the pay increases are retroactive to July of 2012, when the last deal expired.

It must still be approved by the City Council.
