Chicago Public School students have a safe place to go for breakfast, lunch and daytime activities over the holiday break thanks to the generosity of others.
Dozens of Safe Haven sites opened Monday, Dec. 21, at churches throughout the Chicago area. Kids will get to eat breakfast and lunch, and take part in learning activities through the day at the sites. There is no cost for CPS students.
The winter program begins Monday, Dec. 21 and runs through Thursday, Dec. 31, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Safe Haven program is offered through CPS's Office of Faith Based Initiatives. The program is designed to help provide a reliable, no-cost alternative during breaks from school for students and parents. It also holds workshops focused on conflict resolution, anger management, anti-bullying and anti-violence practices.
