CHICAGO (WLS) -- One proposal is trying to make it easier for some people to rent their homes through companies such as Airbnb.
Currently they have to be licensed as a bed and breakfast or a vacation rental. The plan would change that so any units rented for fewer than 90 nights each year would only have to complete a free, online registration.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel's office says this will support the growing industry while allowing the city to track units.
It's also expected to generate $1 million in revenue through a two percent surcharge.
