Strong storms roll through Chicago area
Strong storms leveled trees and flooded roadways in parts of Chicago Tuesday night.

HIGHWOOD, Ill. (WLS) -- Storms brought heavy rain and gusty winds to parts of the Chicago area on Tuesday afternoon and evening. The storms were strong enough to level trees, cause some flooding and a suburban graduation was even postponed.

The rain and wind was enough to bring a tree crashing down onto a house in north suburban Lake Villa. It gave quite a fright to Shirley Cumbee.

"Then all of a sudden I heard this horrible noise, like a load of hail being dumped on the house, and I came to the door to see how bad it was, and I see there's a tree across my house," said Cumbee.

Up and down the North Shore, sections of Route 41 were briefly overrun by water.

In the western suburbs, weather canceled Naperville North's outdoor graduation. It's been rescheduled for Wednesday night.

Eyewitness News viewers shared a photo of mushroom-like storm cloud, and after the storms passed, a rare double rainbow.
