Child home alone comes face-to-face with burglar

DANIA BEACH, Fla. -- A 12-year-old boy in south Florida hid in a bathroom after a man broke into his house while he was home alone.

Newly-released surveillance video shows the burglar rummaging through the home back in July.

The boy told police he heard the man break through a kitchen window. Video shows the thief made his way through the home, stuffing laptops, passports and jewelry into a backpack.

After a short time the burglar turned around and saw the boy, told him to go back to his bedroom and to stay there. The boy hid in the bathroom and called 911.

By the time police arrived, the man was gone. The boy was not hurt.

Police hope some recognizes the thief in the surveillance footage.
