Attempted kidnapping near Midway prompts community alert

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police issued a community alert after a man tried to kidnap a boy near Midway Airport.

The attempt happened around 8:15 a.m. Thursday in the 5700-block of South Keeler.

Police describe the man as between 55 and 60 years old, around 5 ft. 8 in. tall and 165-175 lbs with long gray hair and an unshaven face. They say he was wearing a gray stocking hat, black jacket and black Converse shoes.

Police say the man grabbed the boy on his way to school, but the boy was able to get free and run home. He was unharmed.
