CPD honors officers at commendations ceremony

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago Police Department honored its outstanding officers who put their lives on the line to save others.

The awards were presented Tuesday at the superintendent's monthly departmental commendation ceremony.

Among those who were recognized were officers Jonathan Gula and Timothy McCollom, who responded to a call in which an intoxicated man had beat his girlfriend and set their apartment on fire.

The officers evacuated the building and called firefighters.

A total of 260 officers were honored at the ceremony.
