CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police arrested 27 alleged gang members living on the city's North Side.
The arrests were made Wednesday night during a series of raids in the Uptown neighborhood near the corner of Broadway and Wilson. An increase in shootings, street robberies and home burglaries led police to carry out the operation.
"It's important now for the community, working with the alderman and the 19th district officers to take hold of the area now and not give it back to them. And that's the next challenge," said Chief Anthony Riccio, Bureau of Organized Crime.
Police are still searching for seven suspected gang members.
