CHICAGO (WLS) -- The CTA plans to test a new way to control the number of rats in Chicago's public transit facilities.

The method involves reducing fertility in both male and female rats, using a product that is not harmful to humans. It is currently being tested in New York City.

The CTA will partner with a firm called SenesTech to test the product in areas not seen by customers, including some terminals and old bus and rail garages.

The pilot program is expected to begin in the spring.
