Police: 5 teens arrested for attempting to steal cars in Des Plaines

DES PLAINES, Ill. (WLS) -- Five teenagers were arrested and officials are still looking for another after they tried to steal cars from a rental lot in Des Plaines, according to police.

Des Plaines police said a group of six teens were seen jumping a fence at Advantage Rent A Car that shares a lot with Hertz on 2170 Mannheim Road in Des Plaines.

Police said they caught three of the teens inside the lot and found a backpack that contained a handgun. They found another two teens hiding and another handgun on the ground at Rusty and Parkwood, police said.

The Daily Herald reported that the teens were 16 or 17 years old and from Chicago.
