Walt Disney's boyhood home being restored in Chicago

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Walt Disney's boyhood home is being restored on the city's Northwest Side. And the hope is the restoration will inspire children of the city's Hermosa neighborhood.

The wonderful world of Disney may have a Chicago addition, and a neighborhood unaccustomed tour bus stops may have to get used to it.

A wood-frame two-story house at the corner of Tripp and Palmer was built by Elias Disney, Walt's father, in 1892.

The family lived in the home for a few years before moving out of state. Walt would come back through Chicago again to attend high school. But the family house still stands, and now there is an effort to restore the home and create an early childhood center.

The humble cottage built by a carpenter working for the Columbian Exposition could become a point of inspiration for other young people.
