Malcolm X College opened a new health sciences school.

A new state-of-the-art facility at Chicago's Malcolm X College will better prepare students for jobs in healthcare, officials said.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel joined other city and education leaders for a tour of the school of health sciences, which was designed with the help of Rush University Medical Center.

The goal is to give students a better feel for what they'll be doing on the job. According to the city, there will be plenty of work for healthcare professionals: 84,000 jobs are expected to come to the area over the next ten years.

"While we are cutting the ribbon on a building, we're actually opening up futures for the city of Chicago and these students," Mayor Emanuel said.

The $251 million facility is the first city-owned building to be designed by an African American architect.
