CHICAGO -- What do you get when you give 30 girls 6 recycled refrigerators? A twist on the traditional soap box derby - and a new way to get girls interested in STEM fields.
Split into six teams, the girls turned their refrigerators into racecars that were put to the test in the ComEd Icebox Derby, held Saturday at Daley Plaza. Between heats, the teams participated in STEM challenges to score additional points. At the end of the day, team Orange Flare had the highest combined score.
On Tuesday, Orange Flare team members Sahaja Danthurthy, Aditi Gurudutt, Lungao Mwakatapanya, Deepika Ramachandain, and Francesca Rogozinski visited Windy City Live to discuss the importance of women in engineering with ComEd's president and CEO, Anne Pramaggiore.
