CHICAGO (WLS) -- Election officials have credited Facebook with a surge in Cook County voter registrations.

Earlier this week, the Chicago Board of Elections said it was receiving about 120 to 140 registrations a day. On Friday, that number jumped to more than 1,400.

Officials credit a Facebook voter registration campaign that launched Thursday.

Tuesday, Sept. 27 is National Voter Registration Day.
