Mom upset after Facebook removes photo of shirtless son, cites nudity

AUSTIN, Texas -- A photo of a shirtless boy enjoying a day on the river in Texas was removed by Facebook after the social networking site allegedly mistook the long-haired boy for a girl.

Kelly Stone was in the San Marcos River with her 8-year-old son Mayne a few weeks ago when Christopher Cardoza, a friend and photographer, snapped the photo in question.

Two days after posting it as her profile photo, Stone said she received a notification that said picture was removed because it violated Facebook's community standards by "displaying nudity and sexual activity," KVUE reports.

"I think it's an automated system. But someone should really take a look at the picture. It's obviously a mother with a child," Cardoza said.

"I felt mad because it was just me in the photo," Mayne said.

This is the second time Facebook removed a photo of Stone and her children. The first photo was taken down in April.

Stone's account, which she uses for work, was blocked and she was put on probation for seven days. Once the ban was lifted, Stone uploaded the same photo, modified as a meme that reads: "DEAR FACEBOOK: IT'S A BOY!"

She hopes Facebook can fix its algorithm to prevent this from happening in the future.
