Katie Driscoll is a professional photographer and mother of six who lives in Palos Park, Illinois. Like many parents, Driscoll receives yearly back-to-school ads and catalogs featuring children putting on their best academic and modeling pose. Driscoll, though, noticed that none of the children modeling in the back-to-school ads had Down syndrome like her 4-year-old daughter, Grace, or any other sort of disabilities. So that's when Driscoll decided to do a back-to-school photo shoot of her own.
Driscoll put out a casting call and organized a group of children who she felt would represent young students returning back-to-school. The photo shoot took place at a Chicago bookstore on August 5. The photos themselves are as high quality as any other professional ad, but this ad shows a different kind of student who unfortunately isn't typically pictured in back-to-school photos.
