HOUSTON -- The body of little Fiona Grace Carroll, known as "Kitty," was found Thursday morning in the Kemah area, the search organization Equusearch says.
Family members reported the girl missing around 6 p.m. Wednesday from the marina where their boat is docked.
Kemah police searched the entire area but couldn't find her, so the Coast Guard and Galveston County dive team were called out to help them search the water.
The Galveston County Sheriff's Office claimed it recovered the body around 7 p.m. Wednesday, but Kemah police said that report was inaccurate.
EquuSearch has said the little girl was discovered in 40 feet of water, not far from Dock H where she disappeared.
Kemah resident Robin Browning had joined the search.
"I was there as the discovery was made," she said. "We just said a prayer awhile ago, and God's got her now. She's an angel."
Wednesday was Kitty's 5th birthday. She was on the boat with her father when she disappeared. A photo was taken of her on the dock, but later, the bucket she'd been using to wash the boat was found floating in the water.
The Coast Gaurd searched, along with a law enforcement dive team and Texas EquuSearch, who finally found her using sonar equipment in the murky water.
"Just pray for them and hope they have the strength to accept the results," Kemah resident Sylvia Coronel said.
