CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two firefighters were injured and 11 people displaced after a fire ripped through three buildings on the South Side early Monday.
The flames lit up the city's Grand Crossing neighborhood near East 77th Street and South Drexel Avenue. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
More than 100 firefighters were at the scene.
"The heat that we're working in -- it takes a heavy toll on the firefighters so we have to bring in more personnel," said Chief Rosalind Jones, Chicago Fire Department.
Chicago Fire Media said the fire was extinguished around 5:30 a.m. Investigators said the blaze started in an abandoned building and spread to two homes with families inside.
