CHICAGO (WLS) -- Firefighters rescued two people from a burning house in the West Englewood neighborhood Sunday morning.
The house caught in the 6000-block of South Throop caught fire at about 4:15 a.m., fire officials said. At least three people were initially trapped inside.
One of the three managed to get out unassisted. Firefighters brought the other two out. They've been transported to hospitals. No word on how they're doing this morning.
"They saved two people, they brought a lady out, they brought a man out and one of the other tenants was upstairs he had already come out already so it's just crazy, I can't believe that the fire just went from smoke to flames in like 0.5 seconds," said Sheena Payne, who lives nearby.
A man was hospitalized in fair condition and a woman was hospitalized in critical condition.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
