11-year-old girl shot in the head on South Side

CHICAGO (WLS) -- An 11-year-old girl was shot in the head while sitting in a van Saturday night on the city's South Side, according to a police tweet.

The girl was taken in critical condition to Comers Children's Hospital.

The shooting occurred at about 7:40 p.m. in the 6500-block of South King Drive in the Woodlawn neighborhood, police said.

An offender was not immediately in custody, police said.
