WASHINGTON (WLS) -- A new report out Tuesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show nearly half of foodborne outbreaks in the U.S. of the norovirus might be caused by restaurant employees not properly washing their hands.
The CDC says 70 percent of the outbreaks were because of food workers who had the virus themselves. The norovirus caused 48 percent of foodborne outbreaks in the U.S. between 2009 and 2012.
The CDC says the report highlights the need to require food workers to stay home sick and to always wash their hands.
