CHICAGO (WLS) -- Retailers and shippers are making plans to avoid problems that some experienced during the 2013 holiday season.

Last year, millions of Americans did not get their packages in time for Christmas because of major weather delays around the nation.

To prevent another delivery disaster, FedEx hired a team of meteorologists and plans to add 50,000 seasonal workers.

UPS plans to do the same and hire 95,000 temporary workers.

Amazon says it's expanded its network of shipping and fulfillment centers, and is adding 80,000 temporary employees.
