Driver killed after semi fell off ramp from I-355 to I-80 ID'd

NEW LENOX, Ill. (WLS) -- A crash on I-355 southbound near I-80 east in the southwest suburbs killed at least one person Tuesday afternoon.

Illinois State Police said a semi was traveling on the I-355 southbound ramp to I-80 eastbound when the truck's load shifted, causing it to overturn and fall off the ramp around 4 p.m. in New Lenox.

A tractor-trailer rolled over the concrete barrier on the right shoulder in this single-vehicle crash. The driver was ejected from the semi and pronounced dead on the scene. A passenger was taken to a hospital.

The driver has been identified to the Will County Coroner's Office as 33-year-old Serghei Balint, of downstate Ewing.

The ramp reopened at about 8:40 p.m.
