IDOT proposes express toll lanes on I-55

Would you pay extra to breeze by rush-hour traffic? The Illinois Department of Transportation is proposing optional express toll lanes on I-55.

There'd be one toll lane in each direction on I-55 between I-355 and the Dan Ryan.

Then drivers can choose if they want to pay to move faster or sit in traffic for free.

The tolls would be collected on the I-PASS and would increase, depending on time of day.

The project would need legislative approval.
