Illinois National Guard warns of phone scam

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Illinois National Guard is warning people against scam artists who are falsely soliciting donations on behalf of the guard.

The guard is not trying to raise any money over the phone, officials said.

The guard and other armed forces branches are prohibited from asking for donations, a violation of U.S. Defense Department regulations.

Military officials urge people who have been asked for money to contact police.
