Jennifer Hudson to perform in The Color Purple on Broadway

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Grammy and Oscar award winner Jennifer Hudson is set to make her Broadway debut next fall in a revival of the musical The Color Purple. She has been cast as Shug Avery.

The role will be Hudson's first since she played Effie White in the 2006 film "Dreamgirls."

Additional casting and an official theatre and premiere dates are expected to be announced in the next few weeks.
