CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago Teachers Union president Karen Lewis says she has a renewed focus on improving education in Chicago. Lewis has been back at work for almost two weeks after being diagnosed with a brain tumor last year.
Lewis' work in 2015 includes a new contract to negotiate for the Teachers Union and pushing for an elected school board.
Lewis spoke to a large crowd Monday at the City Club of Chicago. She says she's continuing to get chemotherapy treatments. Lewis is noticeably thinner, which she joked about to the crowd.
"I'm sorry, I was always the fat girl," she said. "At, least I used to be!"
