Lake Geneva family missing for 2 weeks located, mother charged

LAKE GENEVA, Wis. (WLS) -- A mother from Lake Geneva, Wis., who was reported missing has been criminally charged after being found safe with her three sons in Georgia.

Michalene Melges was charged with felony interference with child custody and is being held in Savannah, Ga.

Police said she and her three sons were last seen leaving their home in the 900-block of South Lake Shore Drive May 10.

A van Melges rented in north suburban Lake Bluff was returned to a company recently in Plano, Texas, police said. But there had been no sign of the family.

Investigators did not believe the family was in any danger. They just wanted to locate them.

The boys' father is heading to Georgia to get them.
