LOS ANGELES (WLS) -- One of science fictions most iconic characters will be laid to rest today.

Leonard Nimoy passed away Friday of pulmonary disease. He most famously played Spock in the original Star Trek TV show and movies.

His funeral will be held Sunday in California. His co-star on Star Trek, William Shatner, says he cannot attend because of a commitment to a charity ball.

Instead he's encouraging people everywhere to celebrate and remember Nimoy.
