Chicago shootings: Tracking gun violence in 2024

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The city of Chicago continues to grapple with gun violence, which impacts hundreds of people every year. As of July 7, 2024, there have been almost 1,200 total reported shootings in the city, according to the Chicago Police Department.
"We cannot take our eyes off the ball," Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling said at a news conference following a violent July 4 holiday weekend. "We cannot stop thinking about the people who have been victimized by this crime."
While long holiday weekends often see a spike in gun violence, Chicago police and city officials are working to curb shootings and make the city safer.

Shooting victim dropped off at Roseland Hospital: CPD
A man was dropped off at a hospital on the city's South Side on Sunday morning.
A 20-year-old man was dropped off at Roseland Hospital at about 3:45 a.m., Chicago police said.
He had two gunshot wounds in the abdomen and was listed in critical condition.
It is unknown where the shooting happened.
No one is in custody.

Man shot inside Little Village apartment: police
A man was shot inside a Little Village apartment complex on Sunday morning.
The shooting happened at about 2:07 a.m. near West Cermak Road and Lawndale Avenue, Chicago police said.
A 50-year-old was found shot inside the apartment with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital in critical conditions.
A witness told police a man and a woman were responsible for the shooting. They were seen fleeing in a SUV.
No one is in custody.

Teen seriously injured in Park Manor shooting: police
A teenager is in the hospital after a drive-by shooting in Park Manor, police said.
The shooting happened at about 11:45 p.m. on Saturday as the boy walked in the 6800-block of S. Michigan Avenue, according to CPD.
A person in a black vehicle started to shoot at the 17-year-old.
The victim was shot in the ankle and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
No one in custody.

2 men shot, 1 fatally at Belmont Harbor, Chicago police say
Two men were shot, one fatally just after midnight Saturday at Belmont Harbor, Chicago police said.
Police said the victims were standing in a parking area in the 3500 blk. of North Belmont Harbor Drive when someone fired shots from a dark-colored SUV.
