Man sets himself on fire at Pilsen food festival

A man set fire to himself and a building in the 1500-block of West 18th Street in Pilsen on May 29, 2016.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man ignited himself on fire Sunday night in the middle of the Mole de Mayo festival in Pilsen, Chicago fire officials said.



He also set a fire in a building in the 1500-block of West 18th Street, officials said.



The man was taken into custody shortly before 8 p.m. and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.



Two police officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and treated at Stroger Hospital.



The festival was held near West 18th Street and Ashland Avenue.



Festival organizers released a statement: "The Mole de Mayo Festival was shut down approximately half an hour before the event was about to close due to an isolated incident by the recommendation of the police. Attendees were evacuated without incident."
