Lake County health officials warn of possible measles exposure

LONG GROVE, Ill. (WLS) -- Health officials in Lake County are warning residents of a possible measles exposure in suburban Long Grove.

While officials emphasize that there are no confirmed cases of measles in the county, they are cautioning anyone who visited the Menards store at 2700 W. Lake Cook Road on Feb. 15 between 7:55 a.m.-3:20 p.m.

An individual who tested positive for the virus, who could have been contagious, was at the store during that time, officials said.

There are currently 15 confirmed measles cases in Illinois, 14 of which are in suburban Cook County and one in Chicago. Of those infected in Cook County, three are adults and 11 are children. Twelve of those cases are associated with an outbreak that occurred earlier this month at a KinderCare location in Palatine.

Health officials continue to emphasize the importance of getting vaccinated for the highly contagious virus, though most people have been vaccinated in Illinois. It can be administered to infants in a first dose between ages 12-15 months and a second between 4-6 years.
