BERWYN, Ill. (WLS) -- Train service on the Metra BNSF line was disrupted after a train struck a vehicle near Berwyn Thursday morning, Metra said.

Metra said inbound and outbound trains were halted after train #1223 struck a vehicle. At around 11:20 a.m., Metra said train service was resuming with residual delays.

Berwyn police said a woman in her 20s was stopped at the Ridgeland Avenue crossing for downed gates and there was a stopped freight train. The woman decided to drive around the downed gates and was struck by a westbound Metra train.

Police said the woman was able to walk away from the crash and her car was totaled. The woman was issued a citation for disobeying the downed train gates.
