Metra UP-NW train fatally strikes man near Des Plaines station

DES PLAINES, Ill. (WLS) -- A pedestrian was fatally struck by a Metra train in northwest suburban Des Plaines Tuesday afternoon.

Officials said a male in his 40s was struck by train #629 near the Des Plaines station around 5 p.m. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Metra trains on the Union Pacific Northwest Line were delayed up to two hours on Tuesday night.

The victim's identity has not yet been released. Des Plaines police are investigating.
