3 hurt in Naperville rollover crash involving ambulance; intersection of Aurora, Ogden closed

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- A rollover crash involving an ambulance shut down early Tuesday the intersection of Aurora and Ogden avenues in southwest suburban Naperville. Three people, including two paramedics were sent to the hospital.

Investigators said just before 3:30 a.m. a black 1998 Toyota Camry headed north on Ogden and an ambulance from the Aurora Fire Department headed west on Aurora collided in the intersection.

The ambulance, which was not transporting a patient, landed on its side. It was heading back to its station in Aurora. The Toyota slammed into a pole next to a nearby car dealership.

Two paramedics and the driver of the Toyota, a 52-year-old Naperville woman, were treated and the scene and transported to Edward Hospital. Details about their conditions were not released.

The Chicago Tribune said video shows the ambulance ran a red light when the crash occurred.

The Naperville Police Department Traffic Unit closed the intersection to reconstruct the crash. Local traffic was still being diverted as of 7 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation. No charges or citations have been filed.

A Dense Fog Advisory was in effect for the state of Illinois when the crash occurred.

Investigators have not yet determined whether weather was a factor in the crash.
