CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago Police are searching for the gunman after two people were seriously wounded in a shooting Sunday night near Montrose Beach.

The shooting happened just before 7 p.m. when Montrose Beach was jam packed with people still celebrating Sunday afternoon's Pride Parade.

"I heard three or four shots and I came back over here and it was a lady by the bridge shot on arm and right here by the chest and the other on the leg," said witness Alfonso Degante. "The other one ran through the bridge and that's where the ambulance picked her up."

Police say two women, a 21-year-old and a 48-year-old, were injured and rushed to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, but by the time police arrived the shooter was long gone. Witnesses say he lost himself in the crowd.

"For so many people, you just heard the shots. Everyone started running and saw the person run vaguely and that was it," said Lauren Goings.

"I saw a whole bunch of people and I didn't know what happened, so I walked over and the next thing you know, I look to my side and there is a woman laying down on the ground with a bloody shirt. It freaked us all out," Nestor Navarrete said.

While no one was killed, the whole incident created a lot of panic and confusion.

"It's kind of sad everyone is having a good time out here and someone had to get shot," Goings said.

Both women were hospitalized in serious condition. Police do not know if they were the intended targets of the shooting.
