3 Lake County Jail officers fired after 2011 inmate confrontation

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (WLS) -- Three Lake County Jail officers have been fired and a sergeant demoted. Authorities say the actions came after investigations into a 2011 confrontation with an inmate that lead to his paralysis and eventual death.

Six other jail employees also faced disciplinary action in the case involving a homeless man named Eugene Gruber.

Undersheriff Raymond Rose says internal and independent investigations reveal mismanagement in the jail, including falsified logbooks and poor supervision.
