Man arrested on gun charges after having van stolen

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man who called police to report his van stolen on the city's West Side wound up getting arrested.

Wilfredo Cruz called police to his North Lawndale home Saturday to file the report.

Afterward, he went looking for that stolen van and spotted it a few blocks away in the 4100-block of West Cullerton with two people inside.

Police say Cruz then pulled a handgun and opened fire. Officers still in the area heard the shots.

Cruz is now facing multiple gun charges.
