CHICAGO (WLS) -- The activist organizers behind the "Black Friday" and "Black Christmas" protests in the wake of the release of the Laquan McDonald video are planning a 'Black Wall Street' targeting financial trading institutions on Friday.
DNAInfo reports that organizers announced that protesters will gather around 6 a.m. Friday on Jackson Boulevard near LaSalle Street. They are hoping to block floor traders from getting into the Chicago Board of Trade or the Chicago Board of Options.
Organizers made their latest announcement at a press conference at 75th and Jeffrey, the intersection where 17-year-old Cedrick Chatman was shot and killed by a Chicago police officer in 2013 while police were investigating a car theft. Chatman's shooting was caught on video from several angles, activists say, and protesters are calling on Mayor Emanuel to release the tape.
In fall of 2015, the Independent Police Review Authority deemed the shooting justified.
This is the latest call for the release of video capturing a police-involved shooting, following the release of dash-cam video in the shooting deaths of Ronald Johnson and Laquan McDonald last year.
