Police reported two multi-vehicle crashes on the ice-slickened New Jersey Turnpike Monday night that involved some two dozen vehicles and left at least one person dead and multiple reported injuries.

State Police said the incidents occurred at milepost 71 southbound on the inner and outer roadways. One of the accidents involved 15 passenger vehicles, police said, while the second accident involved seven trucks, one bus and additional passenger vehicles.

Troopers were investigating the crashes and all lanes were closed. Motorists reported black ice in the area, but State Police Sgt. Jeff Flynn said there was "no indication at this point" that weather player a factor.
