CHICAGO (WLS) -- Charges are pending against a person of interest in the death of a 3-year-old girl in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood.
At about 1:10 a.m. Sunday, police found the toddler unresponsive in an apartment in the 2500-block of South Homan, Chicago police said.
The girl, identified as Jazebel Aleman, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:26 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
An autopsy determined the little girl died of multiple injuries in an assault and her death has been ruled a homicide, the medical examiner's office said.
The manager of the building said the toddler lived with her parents on the third floor.
Police said a person of interest is in custody and charges are pending. Police interviewed family members on Sunday, but it is not known if the person of interest is related to the girl.
The Illinois Department of Child and Family Services has not yet responded to ABC7.
