Fire destroys historic Willowbrook Ballroom

WILLOW SPRINGS, Ill. (WLS) -- A fire broke out through the roof of the Willowbrook Ballroom in southwest suburban Willow Springs, fire officials said.

Tri-State Fire Protection responded to a fire at the historic building Friday in the 8900-block of Archer Avenue at 2 p.m. The building was totally evacuated when they arrived.

Smoke billowed from the roof of the building above the main ballroom. Fire officials tried to extinguish the fire quickly but had issues with water supply access.

The ballroom was built 95 years ago in 1921, according to Tri-State Fire Protection District.

An investigation of the cause of the fire is ongoing.
