Lisa Madigan touts stricter college sex assault complaint requirements at UIC

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan was at the University of Illinois - Chicago Tuesday to highlight stricter requirements on how colleges handle sex assault complaints.

Educators, lawmakers and victims' rights advocates joined Madigan at UIC. She discussed a new law that forces schools to develop comprehensive sexual violence policies and adopt a fair process of investigating accusations.

"It will ensure that wherever you go to school in Illinois, you will have options and you will have rights if you are sexually assaulted," Madigan said.

Madigan said 20 percent of women who attend college will survive a sexual assault or attempted sexual assault.
