BURLINGTON COUNTY, NJ -- A man who wanted a ride to the convenience store ended up getting a ride to jail.
Kurt Smith, 56, called 911 to report a disorderly person at his motel room in Southampton, New Jersey. When police arrived, he admitted there really wasn't a disturbance.
"He was just calling to get a ride," State Police Capt. Stephen Jones told the Burlington County Times.
Instead of the store, police took him to jail for filing a false police report.
It's ironic Smith called the cops for a ride seeing as how he has a long criminal history. He's been arrested numerous times over the last 26 years on theft, burglary, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, assault, making terroristic threats and many other charges.
The defendant told the judge his latest arrest was simply a "misunderstanding." The judge made sure he understood his bail would be set at $20,000.
