Man fatally struck by tire swing in NY freak accident

EAST VILLAGE -- A 39-year-old was killed in a freak accident when he was struck in the head by a rubber tire in the East Village Monday.

Authorities say Aleim Perkins was aggressively spinning an empty rubber tire in Tompkins Square Park when it struck him in the face at around 3:50 p.m.

He was knocked unconscious and was bleeding from the mouth.

He was rushed to Beth Israel Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Perkins, who lived in Harlem, was with his niece at the time.
