Metra parking lot targeted by thieves at Wrightwood stop

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Commuters are angry after cars were broken into and vandalized at a Metra parking lot on Chicago's Southwest Side.

"Angry and violated, concerned about safety," said a Chicagoan who is too afraid to be identified. She is just one of eight victims of the break-ins Thursday at the Metra parking lot at the Wrightwood stop at 79th and Kedzie.

"We want to feel safe when we get off that train," she said.

Broken glass still litters the parking lot, now empty, before it fills up again for the morning commute. This victim says this isn't the first time cars here have been burglarized.

"It happened last week. Five cars were vandalized last week," she said.

Metra confirmed the crimes and Chicago police are also investigating. But for commuters who pay to use this lot, another string of break-ins has some of them re-thinking using spaces here.

"We pay the monthly parking fee and now we're going to have to take off work tomorrow," she said.

Metra police spoke to the victims Thursday night, and will likely return on Friday.
