NAPERVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- Police are investigating a possible student prank involving pepper spray that sent four Naperville North High School students and two staff members to the hospital, officials said.

The students and staff members told police that they began experiencing breathing problems in a small common area around 7:10 a.m. Thursday, prompting school officials to call the Naperville Fire Department, police said. The students and staff members were hospitalized as a precaution after experiencing asthma-like symptoms.

Police say the incident may be as a result of a student prank involving pepper spray on a keychain. Three youths have been transported to the Naperville Police Department, and charges are pending.
