NORTHBROOK, Ill. (WLS) -- Mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus have been found in suburban Northbrook, officials said.

The West Nile virus has also been detected in mosquitoes in Kenilworth, Glencoe, Lincolnwood and Skokie, officials said.

So far, no human cases have been reported. However, birds testing positive for the virus were found in Kane County last week, and six other counties in Illinois have found birds or mosquitoes with the virus so far this year.

The virus is transmitted through mosquitoes that have fed on infected birds.
