CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Northern Illinois Food Bank is partnering with businesses and community members across the Chicago area to make sure no family goes without food this holiday.
Employees at Partners Warehouse and members of the Elwood Fire Department are volunteering their time and space to make sure families have what the need this holiday season.
"It's great that we can support our own community," said Fire Cheif William Offerman of the Elmwood Fire Protection District. "We've been blessed in everything that we do and it's fantastic that we can share that with not just our community but our local area communities."
About 260 boxes will be handed out just in time for the holiday to provide meals for over 2,000 people.
"There is a very consistent need across northern Illinois. We are serving 70,000 people every week and that has been consistent," said President and CEO of the Northern Illinois Food Bank, Julie Yurko.
Volunteers who took an hour out of their day said it's the least they can do to help the community.
"It gives our folks immense hope during the holiday season," said Yurko.
